Push for error-free voters’ list: Administration, Political parties align efforts for SIR 2026

Port Blair Nov 22: With the nationwide objective of ensuring a clean, accurate and inclusive electoral roll for 2026, the administration today convened recognised political parties in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands to assess and strengthen the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The meeting focused on improving field coordination, facilitating voter verification and ensuring the timely submission of enumeration forms so that no eligible elector is left out.

During the review meeting held at the Secretariat’s Mini Conference Hall, officials presented the progress of key SIR activities, including the distribution, collection and digitisation of enumeration forms. A detailed briefing highlighted the structured field work undertaken to achieve comprehensive verification across all polling areas.

Political parties were urged to promptly appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to coordinate with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) during the revision. Their role in assisting electors with name verification—especially by cross-checking entries with the SIR 2002 database—was emphasised as critical to maintaining accuracy. A live demonstration was also provided, showing how voters can search for their own or ancestral details through the ECI portal and the CEO’s official website.

Responding to concerns about voters currently residing on the mainland, the officials clarified that any adult family member may submit the enumeration form on their behalf, or the elector may file it online. On queries about the reported 99.98% form distribution, it was explained that BLOs had covered every household, and forms relating to absent, shifted, deceased or duplicate electors were duly verified and accounted for.

The administration urged political parties to encourage shifted electors to submit their forms before 4th December 2025 to ensure their inclusion in the draft roll to be published on 09.12.2025. Electors left out will still have the opportunity to apply through Form-6 during the Claims & Objections period from 09.12.2025 to 08.01.2026.

Representatives appreciated the robust groundwork undertaken and assured full cooperation. Senior officials, including the DEO (South Andaman), AERO, Joint CEO and IT team, attended the meeting.
