Major step in hr. education; NSCBIHL sets academic wheels in motion

Port Blair: Marking a major step in the evolution of higher education in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the newly established Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Institute of Higher Learning (NSCBIHL) held its first-ever Academic Council meeting on Tuesday, laying the foundation for structured academic governance and future expansion as a Deemed-to-be University.
The maiden meeting of the Academic Council was convened in the Conference Hall of the Secretariat at Sri Vijaya Puram under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof. Alok Kumar Rai. Declared a “Deemed to be University” under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, NSCBIHL has now initiated key academic and administrative processes aimed at shaping the institution into a premier centre of higher learning in the Islands.

During the meeting, the Council deliberated extensively on academic planning, regulations and institutional strengthening. It approved the academic and examination regulations in line with UGC guidelines and norms prescribed by statutory regulatory authorities. The Council also finalized the framework for academic planning and monitoring to ensure streamlined curriculum delivery, academic supervision and evaluation mechanisms.
In a significant decision, the Academic Council resolved that admissions under the new university framework would commence from the Academic Year 2026–27 across all constituent colleges functioning under the aegis of NSCBIHL, paving the way for a smooth institutional transition.

Addressing the members, Vice Chancellor Prof. Alok Kumar Rai congratulated them on being part of the university’s maiden Academic Council meeting and stressed the importance of collective efforts in maintaining high educational standards. He emphasized that NSCBIHL would strive to emerge as a leading institution of higher learning in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands while aligning its vision with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The meeting is being viewed as a landmark development in the academic landscape of the Islands, setting the stage for the university’s long-term growth, academic reforms and institutional excellence.
