The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has introduced two supplementary educational modules on Operation Sindoor, aimed at students from Classes 3 to 12. These modules provide a structured, age-appropriate overview of India’s strategic military response following the Pahalgam terror attack.
Module Details & Purpose
NCERT has rolled out two versions of the module:
- “Operation Sindoor—A Saga of Valour” for Classes 3–8
- “Operation Sindoor—A Mission of Honour and Bravery” for Classes 9–12(ThePrint, www.ndtv.com)
Each is approximately 8 to 10 pages long, designed as supplementary reading material, not part of the standard textbooks(Business Standard, ThePrint).
What’s Inside the Modules
The modules aim to teach:
- How India responded to the Pahalgam terror attack (April 22, 2025) through Operation Sindoor
- Key themes including India’s defence capabilities, military strategy, diplomatic coordination, and national unity(ThePrint, www.ndtv.com)
- Detailed accounts of how Pakistan was implicated, including denials of involvement despite evidence suggesting orders from Pakistan’s military and political leadership(ThePrint, www.ndtv.com)
The modules highlight national solidarity:
“Muslim communities in Hyderabad, Lucknow, and Bhopal wore black armbands and openly denounced the attack…”—and emphasize widespread support for Indian Armed Forces(ThePrint).
Broader Educational Context
These modules align with NCERT’s larger initiative under NEP 2020 and NCF 2023 to integrate contemporary issues into education. They join a series of short, thematic modules on topics like Mission LiFE, Chandrayaan, Partition, Women Empowerment, and the G20 summit(ThePrint, The Indian Express).
These are intended to:
- Foster civic awareness and national pride
- Engage students with real-life events through narrative stories, maps, and reflection prompts(Ecole Globale International Girls School)
Educational Significance for Andaman Classrooms
For students and teachers in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands:
- The modules offer a balanced way to teach about national security, defence, and geopolitical decisions through age-appropriate content.
- Teachers can weave them into Social Science or EVS classes, and use them as a springboard for critical thinking, group discussions, or activity-based learning.
