Andaman’s own logo maestro turns creativity into legacy

Port Blair Oct 17: Creativity found its proud moment in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands as Admiral DK Joshi, Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, unveiled a remarkable book titled “Passion to Prowess – The Journey of a Logo Designer from Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Authored by Jag Jeevan Ram, an Administrative Officer at ICMR–Regional Medical Research Centre, Port Blair, and recipient of the Lt. Governor’s Commendation Award, the book captures an inspiring creative journey rooted in the Islands yet resonating far beyond them.

A self-taught designer, Jag Jeevan Ram has been the artistic mind behind many emblematic visual identities that have come to represent the ethos and institutions of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration. His works include logos for the A&N Police, A&N Command, and several government departments—each design reflecting not just artistic flair but a deep understanding of purpose, symbolism, and local culture.

His creative repertoire also extends to national recognition—most notably, his design of the ₹75 Commemorative Coin, issued to mark the 75th anniversary of the first hoisting of the Tricolour by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on Indian soil in December 1943. This singular achievement bridges the past and present, giving visual form to a moment of immense historical pride.

Speaking at the launch, the Lt. Governor lauded Ram’s exceptional talent and dedication, calling him a true example of how art and innovation can flourish even in the remotest corners of the nation. He appreciated the author’s contribution to enriching the islands’ creative and cultural identity through his design work.

“Passion to Prowess” is more than a personal chronicle—it is a story of vision, perseverance, and the power of design to communicate identity. For young artists and professionals across the islands, the book stands as an inspiring testament that creativity, when guided by purpose, can leave an indelible mark on history.
