Bridge to a better future: Duke Nagar awaits lifeline over Lauki Nallah

Duke Nagar (N &M Andaman), Oct 30: A long-standing dream of the residents of Duke Nagar Village is finally taking shape, with the proposed Lauki Nallah Bridge poised to bring safer, faster, and all-weather connectivity to the area — a development seen as a lifeline for hundreds of islanders who currently face daily hardships while crossing the stream.

The Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner and Additional District Magistrate, North & Middle Andaman, visited Duke Nagar Village to review developmental works and assess the progress of the much-awaited Lauki Nallah Bridge project.

During the site inspection, the MP emphasized that the construction of the bridge will not only improve local connectivity but also boost accessibility to essential services, education, and markets — directly benefiting the people at large. He assured residents that all necessary steps are being taken to expedite the project’s commencement.

The Deputy Commissioner informed the gathering that the land set-apart process for the proposed bridge has been completed, clearing a major procedural hurdle. Until the bridge becomes operational, as a precautionary safety measure, 20 life jackets and a rope were handed over to the Ward Member of Duke Nagar for commuters who continue to use the existing makeshift crossing, ensuring that no more lives are put at risk.

Apart from the bridge, the MP also briefed the public about the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, encouraging residents to avail themselves of the scheme’s benefits. The villagers raised other local issues, including the need for an STS school bus service up to Ram Mandir and concerns over water supply, to which the Deputy Commissioner assured prompt and suitable action.

Reiterating the Administration’s commitment to inclusive growth and infrastructure-driven development, the Deputy Commissioner affirmed that work on the bridge and other essential services will continue in full earnest to ensure that Duke Nagar’s long-pending connectivity challenges are resolved once and for all.

With the promise of the Lauki Nallah Bridge on the horizon, Duke Nagar looks forward to a safer, more connected, and prosperous tomorrow.
