Port Blair Oct 28: The UTGST Department has stepped up its outreach and enforcement to ensure all eligible businesses in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are GST-registered and compliant. Under the guidance of Arjun Sharma, Commissioner, UTGST, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands’ GST team led by Dr. Jatinder Sohal, Assistant Commissioner, UTGST (South Andaman) conducted a GST Awareness Program at Swaraj Dweep from 25th to 26th October 2025.
The team engaged with various business establishments, including those in water sports, tour operations, hotels, and restaurants, providing detailed information on GST registration procedures, return filing, and the benefits of compliance. Participants were reminded that GST registration is mandatory for all eligible businesses under the prevailing Acts and Rules, and non-compliance could attract penalties and legal action.
The Department has announced that more awareness camps and enforcement drives will be conducted across the Islands in the coming months to promote full compliance and support local enterprises in understanding their GST obligations. Business owners have been urged to ensure their registration and filings are up to date to avoid punitive measures.
