Port Blair/Baratang Oct 21 : In yet another decisive move against the illegal liquor trade, the Baratang Police struck swiftly to foil a major smuggling attempt at South Creek on October 19, 2025. Acting on vigilance and quick coordination, a team led by SI Subramani, SHO PS Baratang, along with HC G. Madhav Rao and PCs M. Ashok Kumar, Suresh Kumar, and Servai, conducted a surprise vehicle check that unearthed a significant cache of contraband liquor.
During the operation, the team intercepted a suspicious vehicle and, upon inspection, uncovered 420 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) being transported illegally. The driver, identified as V. Duraichamy (47), a private worker residing at School Line near Shiv Temple here failed to produce any valid permit for carrying such a large quantity of alcohol.
The entire consignment and the vehicle were seized on the spot, and a case under relevant provisions of the Excise Regulation has been registered at Police Station Baratang. Investigations are now underway to trace the source of the liquor and its intended recipients.
Police officials emphasized that this operation underscores the force’s zero-tolerance approach to illicit liquor trade. Continuous checking drives, surprise raids, and targeted crackdowns are being conducted across the islands to dismantle unlawful networks engaged in the trade.
The A&N Police have once again appealed to the public to stay vigilant and share any information related to illegal activities by contacting the nearest Police Station or dialing 100, 112, or 03192-273344. The identity of informers will remain confidential, and valuable inputs will be duly rewarded.
With proactive policing and community cooperation, authorities aim to keep the islands free from the grip of illegal liquor networks.
