Sri Vijaya Puram, January 21: An Oral Health Awareness Programme-cum-Dental Check-up Camp was organised on January 20, 2026, at the Bathu Basti campus of the ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, through a collaborative effort by the Rotary Club of Port Blair, Dinesh Dental Clinic, and the CIARI Employees Welfare Association.
Addressing the gathering during the inaugural session, Dr. Jai Sunder, Director (A), ICAR-CIARI, highlighted the significance of social welfare initiatives in fostering holistic institutional and societal development. He underscored the constructive role played by Rotary Clubs and stressed the need for organising regular health camps on diverse healthcare themes, particularly for the benefit of both permanent and contractual employees of the institute.
S. P. Deepak Kumar, President of the Rotary Club of Port Blair, briefed participants on the range of community-oriented activities undertaken by the Club across different parts of the Islands in recent times. He noted that the camp marked the first such health initiative conducted exclusively for CIARI employees and expressed satisfaction at the positive response.
Dental surgeon Dr. Dinesh also addressed the gathering, assuring that similar programmes focusing on various aspects of social and health development would be organised in the future. Dinakaran, former President of the Rotary Club, participated in the programme and interacted with CIARI scientists during the event.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Pooja Bohra, Senior Scientist and General Secretary of CIARIEWA, and benefitted around 55 staff members of the institute. Dental consultations were provided by Dr. Dinesh and Dr. Snehesh, Periodontist and Implantologist. Essential medicines and dental aids were distributed to participants as part of the camp.
