Port Blair Oct 17: In a decisive step toward protecting public assets and preserving community spaces, the District Administration, South Andaman, has intensified its ongoing crackdown on illegal encroachments across the district. The latest action, carried out at Radhanagar village, Swaraj Dweep, underscores the Administration’s firm resolve to reclaim government land and uphold transparency in land governance.
During a major eviction drive conducted today, Revenue officials cleared around 2,000 square meters of encroached government land, dismantling unauthorized areca nut and vegetable plantations that had come up on the site. The land has since been restored to its original state, marking yet another milestone in the Administration’s continuing campaign to safeguard community resources.
Officials emphasized that illegal occupation or misuse of government land will invite strict legal consequences, reiterating the Administration’s zero-tolerance stance on encroachments.
In a bid to encourage citizen vigilance and cooperation, the Administration has opened multiple communication channels for reporting encroachments or unauthorized constructions. Residents can share credible information via the District Control Room at 03192-240127 / 238881 / 1070 or through WhatsApp at 9531888844. Importantly, the identity of informants will be kept confidential, and all genuine reports will receive prompt attention.
With each successful operation, the South Andaman Administration reaffirms its commitment to transparent governance and community-driven land protection, ensuring that the islands’ natural and public spaces remain safeguarded for future generations.
