Justice at fingertips: e-Seva Kendra brings courts closer to the people

Port Blair, Oct. 16: In a major step toward making justice more accessible and citizen-friendly, an e-Seva Kendra was inaugurated today at the District Court Complex here, ushering in a new era of digital convenience for litigants, lawyers, and the general public. With the launch of the e-Seva Kendra, the judiciary in the A&N Islands takes another decisive step toward digital empowerment and people-centric justice delivery.

The facility was inaugurated by Justice Sabyasachi Bhattacharyya, Judge, High Court, Calcutta, and Zonal Judge for the A&N Islands. Describing the initiative as a “gateway to accessible justice,” Justice Bhattacharyya highlighted the need for such digital service hubs in line with the Supreme Court’s vision to make court services inclusive and transparent. He urged the legal fraternity and the public to make full use of the platform, which he said would bridge the digital divide for those unfamiliar with online judicial processes.

District and Sessions Judge Sudhir Kumar explained that the e-Seva Kendra would serve as a one-stop solution for a wide range of court-related services—from case inquiries, e-filing, and online payments to e-Mulakat (virtual meetings) and mobile app support. “This facility ensures that no citizen is left behind due to lack of digital literacy or access,” he said.

Representatives from the Bar Association also echoed the sentiment, calling the initiative a much-needed step toward simplifying interactions with the justice system and reducing delays caused by procedural bottlenecks.
