Sri Vijaya Puram, January 26: It is a matter of pride and honour for the Andaman and Nicobar Police that four of its personnel have been conferred the prestigious Police Medal for Meritorious Service and Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service in recognition of their distinguished and unblemished service. The awards were announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs on the eve of the 77th Republic Day, 2026.
Among the awardees is Naveen Kumar, Deputy Commandant, India Reserve Battalion (IRBn), Andaman & Nicobar Police. He joined the force on June 22, 2006, as a Sub-Inspector (GD) and has since rendered exemplary service marked by professionalism, leadership, and operational competence. An outstanding performer in professional training, he secured top positions at the BSF Training Academy, Tekanpur; STC BSF Churachandpur (Counter-Insurgency & Jungle Warfare); and the Central School of Weapons & Tactics, Indore, where he stood first among all-India police trainees. As Inspector and later Deputy Commandant, he contributed significantly to training, security management, and modernisation initiatives, including innovative inventory and health management systems. In recognition of his distinguished service and leadership qualities, he has been awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
Amar Kumar Roy, Sub-Inspector (Fire & Emergency Services) and Station Officer, Fire Station Diglipur, has been conferred the Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service. He joined the department on June 1, 1988, as a Constable (Fireman) and has completed over three decades of dedicated service, rising through the ranks to Head Constable (Leading Fireman), Assistant Sub-Inspector, and Sub-Inspector. Under his leadership, Fire Station Diglipur was adjudged the Best Fire Station of North & Middle Andaman District in 2025. He has also been awarded the Deputy Commissioner’s Commendation Certificate on Republic Day 2025, along with several commendations and cash rewards. His service record remains unblemished throughout his career.
S. Ramani, Head Constable (HC/756), appointed as a Police Constable in 1994, has rendered long and dedicated service in the Andaman & Nicobar Police. After completing basic training at the Recruit Training Centre, Port Blair, he served in Police Lines, Police Motor Transport Unit, and various police stations including Campbell Bay and Nancowry. He has played a key role in the successful conduct of Passing Out Parades, Republic Day and Independence Day parades, and several sports and inter-unit competitions. His consistent efforts in instilling discipline and professionalism among recruits have earned him multiple commendation certificates. In recognition of his unwavering dedication and performance, he has been awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
Another recipient of the Police Medal for Meritorious Service is Ibrahim Ali, Head Constable (HC/1059), who has rendered distinguished service marked by courage, professionalism, and compassion. He initially joined the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force in 1994 and served in challenging and high-risk areas including Anantnag (Jammu & Kashmir), Doda, Leh-Ladakh, and the Punjab–Haryana Secretariat, actively participating in counter-terrorism operations. After joining the Andaman & Nicobar Police in 2002, he served in District Jail Prothrapur, CID Unit, and Police Station Aberdeen, contributing significantly to the detection and investigation of serious crimes, including NDPS, illegal timber, excise, and immoral trafficking cases.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Shri Ibrahim Ali remained continuously deployed for enforcement duties, transportation of Covid-19 patients and deceased persons, and investigation of UDFIRs. In extraordinary circumstances, he personally arranged and performed the last rites of unclaimed Covid-positive deceased persons with due permissions, demonstrating exceptional humanity and devotion to duty. His service has been recognised with multiple commendations, including the DG Commendation Disc in 2024.
Complimenting the awardees, Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, along with all ranks of the Andaman & Nicobar Police, congratulated them for bringing honour to the force and wished them continued success in their future careers.
