Port Blair Oct 13: In a decisive move to protect public property from illegal occupation, the District Administration of South Andaman launched a major eviction drive today at North Bay village and Bambooflat, reclaiming government land from unauthorized encroachers.
At North Bay, officials identified and cleared 500 square meters of encroached land under the possession of the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD). The land, once occupied illegally, has now been restored to government control and formally handed over to APWD for protection and future use.
A similar operation was carried out near the Tsunami Shelter in Bambooflat, where the Revenue Department, backed by the Police Department and field staff, dismantled an unauthorized shed structure erected on government land. This action freed an additional 1,000 square meters of prime land, returning it to its original condition.
The Administration reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance against encroachment, warning that strict legal action will be taken against anyone attempting to occupy public land unlawfully. “Encroachment is not only illegal but also hampers development and public access to resources meant for community welfare,” a senior official stated.
Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant and report any instances of illegal occupation. Complaints and information can be shared with the District Control Room via 03192-240127, 238881, 1070. The identity of the person providing the information will be kept secret.
