Port Blair: In a significant development for the daily commuters of South Andaman, G Bhasker, Chairman of the Campaign Committee of the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), has appreciated the Island Chief Secretary for actively listening and responding to the urgent demands of the public regarding the Chatham Bridge. Highlighting the administration’s positive pivot toward citizen welfare, Bhasker praised the leadership for acknowledging the growing hardships of locals and initiating structural interventions to restore convenience to the island’s vital transport lifeline.
During his address, Bhasker emphasized that the Chatham Bridge serves as an irreplaceable corridor for the residents of Bambooflat and surrounding region. He lauded the Chief Secretary for taking concrete steps—including the deployment of immediate transport assistance like battery-operated rickshaws—to ease the pain of senior citizens, school children, and daily commuters who were previously forced to walk long distances due to the bridge’s vehicle restrictions. Bhasker noted that such responsiveness from the highest level of administration not only alleviates public distress but also restores deep confidence in governance.
Closing his remarks on a hopeful note, the ANTCC leader urged the administration to maintain this momentum by expediting the long-awaited renovation and stability surveys for the bridge. He reiterated that a permanent, fully operational Chatham Bridge is essential for the region’s seamless economic and daily activity, expressing optimism that the Chief Secretary’s proactive stance marks the beginning of a swift resolution to the island’s pressing infrastructure challenges.
