Port Blair Nov 8: In a well-coordinated operation against illegal timber trade, the Mobile Squad of the South Andaman Forest Division foiled an attempt to smuggle sawn wood on November 6, 2025. Acting swiftly on a credible tip-off, the team led by Forester Uttam Kumar Mistry, assisted by RPS Mazdoors, intercepted three offenders found in possession of illegally sawn timber measuring 0.1208 cubic meters, along with tools, an engine dinghy, and a halis dinghy used for the illicit activity.
The offenders and the seized materials were handed over to the Range Officer, Jirkatang, for further action under relevant provisions of the Forest Laws. The operation was conducted under the overall supervision of Forest Ranger and Range Officer, Mobile Squad.
Reiterating its commitment to curb forest crimes, the Forest Department has urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any illegal felling, transport, or trade of forest produce to the helpline 03192-255228, assuring complete confidentiality for informants.
