People’s voice meets policing action at Jan Sunwai

RANGAT, Nov 8: In a proactive step to bridge the gap between the police and the public, a Jan Sunwai (public hearing) was held at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium, Rangat, on Saturday. The session was chaired by Shweta K. Sugathan, Superintendent of Police (District), North & Middle Andaman, in the presence of Chandan G.S., DANIPS, SDPO Rangat, and Inspector Mohd. Sameer, SHO, PS Rangat.

The interactive meet drew over 45 participants, including Pradhans, PRI members, and local residents from across Rangat, who voiced their concerns on pressing issues such as the recent fire incident, drug abuse, illegal liquor trade, and traffic management, while also seeking greater police visibility and patrolling in the region.

Addressing the gathering, SP Shweta K. Sugathan assured that all genuine grievances would be taken up with urgency and resolved in coordination with the concerned departments. She reiterated the police department’s commitment to peace, safety, and public trust through community-oriented and responsive policing.

In her concluding message, the SP called upon citizens to act as vigilant partners by sharing any credible information about drug abuse, criminal activities, or other unlawful acts in their areas. She emphasized that timely public cooperation is key to building a safe and crime-free society.

The police have also urged residents to report any suspicious or illegal activities at their nearest Police Station or through the helplines 100, 112, or 03192-273344, assuring strict confidentiality and suitable rewards for informants.
