Island pride shines in Parliament: Law student Aliya Majeed represents A&N at National Unity Day

Port Blair, Nov 3: Amid the grandeur of the Parliament Bhavan in New Delhi, the voice of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands resonated proudly through Aliya Majeed, a fourth-year BALLB student of Andaman Law College, who represented the Islands at the National Unity Day celebrations held on October 31, commemorating the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Chosen from among 36 youth delegates representing every State and Union Territory, Aliya earned this rare honour through her stellar performance in the Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament state-level rounds held in March. Her articulate vision and passion for national integration stood out, securing her place among only 12 participants selected nationwide to deliver speeches on the legacy of the Iron Man of India.

The event was graced by Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla, and Vice President of India, C.P. Radhakrishnan, who lauded the delegates for embodying the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat. In his address, Birla described Sardar Patel as “the architect of national unity and integrity,” reminding the youth that the future of the nation rests on their commitment to these ideals.

Expressing pride in her achievement, Dr. P.V. Nagendra Sarma, Principal of Andaman Law College, and Sukharanjan Biswas, Joint Director, MyBharat, congratulated Aliya for bringing laurels to the institution and the Islands.

For the young law student, the experience was not just a moment of personal triumph but a reflection of the vibrant youth spirit of the Andaman.
