Islands on stage: Where culture meets the sea and celebration meets opportunities

Port Blair Oct 19: The Andaman & Nicobar Islands are more than a tropical paradise — they are a living mosaic of cultures, traditions, and breathtaking natural beauty. As the world rediscovers the charm of experiential travel, the Islands are ready to tell their story louder, brighter, and more vibrantly than ever before. And this December, that story will unfold under the radiant banner of the Island Tourism Festival–2025, the archipelago’s grandest annual celebration of art, culture, and adventure.

Organized by the Tourism Department, A&N Administration, the much-anticipated festival will run from December 27 to 31, 2025, transforming the Islands into a spectacular canvas of performances, local craftsmanship, and immersive cultural experiences. What sets this year’s festival apart is its pan-Island presence — the Department of Art & Culture will present an impressive array of programmes across 14 venues, spanning from Port Blair’s ITF Ground and Marina Park to far-flung gems such as Shaheed Dweep, Swaraj Dweep, Baratang, Mayabunder, Diglipur, Hut Bay, Rangat, Nancowry, Nicobar, Wandoor, Wimberlygunj, and Campbell Bay.

The goal is clear: to ensure that every corner of the Islands participates in this grand celebration, making tourism not just an attraction, but a movement of people, pride, and possibilities.

Local cultural groups have been invited to take center stage, showcasing the Islands’ diverse talent — from graceful traditional dances to soulful singing performances. Each participating group will perform 30-minute dance segments or 45-minute to 1-hour singing showcases, offering tourists and locals alike a glimpse into the region’s vibrant artistic soul.

The selection process, guided by the Programme Selection Committee, will ensure variety and excellence. Rehearsals are scheduled on December 8 and 9 at the Andaman Club, where performers will get the opportunity to present their acts live before finalizing the festival lineup.

For the Department, the Island Tourism Festival is more than a calendar event — it’s a strategic platform to highlight the Islands’ untapped tourism potential. By engaging communities from North to South, the festival seeks to promote local art, attract travellers beyond conventional circuits, and reinforce the Islands’ image as a destination where nature meets culture in its purest form.

Artists and cultural associations interested in participating have until 4 PM on November 14, 2025, to submit their applications to the Directorate of Art & Culture, Cellular Jail Complex, Atlanta Point, Sri Vijaya Puram, or via email: artand.culture@and.nic.in.

With every drumbeat and dance step, every song and smile, Island Tourism Festival–2025 promises to remind the world that these Islands are not just a place on the map — they’re an experience to be felt, celebrated, and shared.
