Port Blair Oct 8: Change often begins with the young — curious minds in classrooms and energetic college students who carry the spark of innovation and empathy. Recognising this, the administration is now striving to make youth participation the driving force behind its upcoming initiatives, aiming to turn school corridors and college campuses into vibrant hubs of community action.
In a renewed push to build a more aware, responsible, and active community, the administration has announced plans to involve the maximum number of school and college students, as well as local youth, in its flagship programmes and public campaigns.
Officials believe that engaging students and young people is key to shaping long-term societal change, whether in tackling environmental issues, spreading health awareness, or driving civic initiatives.
“The energy and ideas of our youth are unmatched. By involving them directly in these programmes, we’re not just creating awareness — we’re cultivating leadership and responsibility at an early age,” said an official spearheading the campaign.
Plans are underway to partner with educational institutions across the Islands, encouraging them to integrate these drives into extracurricular activities, eco-clubs, NSS and NCC units, and college outreach programmes.
The initiative also envisions youth-led campaigns — from tree plantation drives and cleanliness rallies to energy conservation workshops and digital awareness campaigns. These activities aim to blend learning with action, offering students opportunities to contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Local educators and parents have welcomed the approach, noting that students today are eager to be part of real-world problem-solving.
“It’s time we give our young people a platform to lead. If they feel ownership of these campaigns, they’ll inspire others and help sustain the efforts for years,” said a college lecturer from Port Blair.
Authorities believe this youth-centric approach can not only boost participation rates but also infuse campaigns with creativity and innovation, helping to tackle challenges in fresh ways that resonate with both urban and rural communities.
By bringing students and young leaders to the forefront, the administration hopes to nurture a culture of civic responsibility and social action that will shape the Islands’ future.
