Kicking drugs to the sidelines: SP cup soccer thrills spectators

Mayabunder Oct 5: The cheers, the tackles, the thunder of applause—Mayabunder’s Netaji Stadium came alive last evening as Divyanka-NFC scripted a spectacular victory in the SP Cup Football tournament–2025, capping off a week of gripping matches, electric crowds, and a powerful message: “Kick drugs out, bring sports in.” The eagerly awaited SP Cup Football Tourney–2025, organised under the theme ‘Nasha Mukht Bharat’ by the North & Middle Andaman District Police, concluded on Saturday with a grand finale that was as thrilling as it was meaningful.

The tournament, open to all categories, kicked off last week and transformed the usually quiet Netaji Stadium into a hub of excitement and energy. In a nail-biting final, Divyanka-NFC battled it out with Bakultala-FC in front of a roaring crowd, ultimately clinching the championship trophy after a stunning display of teamwork and grit.

The closing ceremony at the Forest Club, Mayabunder, added an extra layer of grandeur with Shweta K. Sugathan, Superintendent of Police, N&MA District, gracing the event as the Chief Guest. The SP Cup is more than a tournament—it’s a platform to unite communities, nurture young talent, and send a strong message against substance abuse,” said SP Shweta Sugathan, lauding the efforts of players and organisers alike.

The evening featured a vibrant prize distribution ceremony, a cultural programme, and a compelling Nukkad Natak on drug abuse, which left the audience with a lasting message about the dangers of addiction and the value of choosing sports over substances.

Organised with the twin goals of youth engagement and drug awareness, the SP Cup 2025 proved that football can be more than just a game—it can be a force for change. The North & Middle Andaman District Police reaffirmed their commitment to building a safer, healthier community through such initiatives.
