Mayabunder(A&N) Oct 29: In a strong reaffirmation of the Isles’ commitment to swift and uncompromising justice, two convicts in separate child sexual abuse cases were handed 20 years of rigorous imprisonment each by the Special POCSO Court, marking a powerful statement against crimes targeting children.
Accordingly, the North & Middle Andaman District Police have demonstrated their unwavering dedication to justice and the protection of children, securing two major convictions in separate POCSO cases. In judgments delivered on October 28, 2025, the Special Judge (POCSO), Subhajit Basu, sentenced Sonu Tigga and Pritam Biswas to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment each and imposed fines of ₹20,000, in connection with Crime No. 11/2023 (PS Baratang) and Crime No. 12/2023 (PS Kadamtala) respectively.

Both cases were registered under various provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, reflecting the Administration’s firm stance against sexual crimes involving minors.

The judgments stand as a testament to the diligent investigation and professional excellence of the police teams involved. The case from PS Kadamtala was investigated by Sub-Inspector Mariam under the leadership of the then SHO, Sub-Inspector Abdul Rehman, while the Baratang case was probed by Sub-Inspector Silpi Singha under the supervision of the then SHO, Sub-Inspector Surjit Bhattacharjee. Their meticulous investigation and unwavering commitment ensured that justice was swiftly served.

Calling the verdicts a landmark in the Isles’ fight against sexual crimes, the Andaman & Nicobar Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy toward such heinous offenses. “These convictions send out a loud and clear message — crimes against children will invite the harshest punishment,” the statement read.

The Police Department commended the dedicated efforts of all officers involved and reaffirmed its continued mission to uphold the rule of law, protect the vulnerable, and strengthen public trust in the justice system.
