Woman escapes alleged murder bid at Chouldhari village; Husband booked after sharp weapon attack

Port Blair: A domestic dispute turned violent at Chouldhari village in South Andaman after a woman narrowly escaped an alleged attempt on her life when her husband reportedly attacked her with a sharp weapon inside her rented house on Monday afternoon. The accused, described in the complaint as a habitual drunkard with a history of abusive behaviour, has been booked by Ograbraj Police under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including attempt to murder.

According to the FIR registered at Ograbraj Police Station, the complainant, who works at a restaurant in Chouldhari, alleged that her husband frequently created disturbances and assaulted her and their children after consuming alcohol. Owing to repeated harassment and family disputes, she had reportedly been living separately along with her two sons in a rented accommodation at Chouldhari. In her statement to police, the woman alleged that on May 25 at around 10:30 am, while returning from work, she encountered her husband near SBI Bank at Chouldhari in an intoxicated condition. During the encounter, he allegedly threatened to kill her before she proceeded towards her residence.
The situation allegedly escalated later in the afternoon.

According to the complaint, at around 2 pm, the accused allegedly arrived at her rented house and began banging aggressively on the door while shouting threats to kill her. Alarmed by the situation, the woman reportedly contacted her elder son seeking immediate help.
Moments later, the accused allegedly forced open the door and entered the house carrying a sharp weapon. The complainant alleged that he attempted to stab her in the abdomen. However, as she tried to protect herself, the weapon reportedly struck her thigh, causing injuries. In a desperate attempt to escape, she allegedly pushed the accused, causing him to lose balance and fall to the ground.

Taking advantage of the moment, the woman reportedly fled from the house and rushed to a neighbour’s residence to seek safety and assistance. She later approached the police and lodged a formal complaint seeking strict legal action against her husband. Based on the complaint, Ograbraj Police have registered an FIR under Sections 109(1), 118(2), and 331(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Police sources said investigation into the case is currently in progress.
