Port Blair, Oct. 14: From the tranquil creeks of North & Middle Andaman to the international waters of Vietnam, Ms. Amrita Minj’s journey is one of grit, discipline, and quiet determination. The young rower from Birsanagar (EFA), Tugapur, is proudly representing India at the Asian Rowing Championship 2025, being held from October 13 to 19 at Hai Phong, Vietnam.
A former trainee of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Training Centre, Sri Vijaya Puram, Amrita’s tryst with rowing began in September 2017, when her sporting potential was first spotted during local talent scouting. Under the expert coaching and mentoring at SAI STC Sri Vijaya Puram, she developed into a formidable athlete, earning medals at national-level competitions and soon catching the attention of selectors.
Her consistent performance paved the way for her induction into the SAI National Centre of Excellence (NCOE), Alleppey, where she continued to sharpen her skills and compete at international events.
The SAI Center her has lauded her achievement, calling her journey a beacon of inspiration for young island athletes. Her rise from a small island village to the Asian stage stands as a testament to what dedication and opportunity can achieve. “Amrita’s success reflects the sporting spirit of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands — small in size but big in ambition,” a senior SAI official remarked while wishing her success at the championship.
