Port Blair Sept 25: Baratang was jolted on Wednesday morning when a partially decomposed body of a man was discovered hanging inside a rented accommodation at Oralkatcha. The deceased has been identified as Shibu Mazumdar, son of Karthick Mazumdar, but police are yet to trace his close relatives.
The body, found around 10:30 a.m. on September 24, has been shifted to the mortuary of G.B. Pant Hospital, Sri Vijaya Puram, for preservation until identification and further formalities by family members. Baratang Police have registered a case under UDFIR No. 07/2025 dated 24/09/2025, U/s 194 of Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, and investigations are underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the death.
Police have released a descriptive roll of the deceased: Height – 5’5”, complexion – shallow, build – well built, hair – partially black & white; wearing a pink half T-shirt and blue track pants.
