Milky Way to women Empowerment in the Island

Port Blair, Oct. 15: Bringing freshness closer to the public, the A&N Islands Integrated Development Corporation Ltd. (ANIIDCO) has rolled out its first-ever Milk Carts at Marina Park and Bathu Basti, along with a new Milk Parlour at Swaraj Dweep, marking a new milestone in its dairy operations.

The facilities were inaugurated on Tuesday by Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration and Chairman, ANIIDCO. Following the launch, the Chief Secretary interacted with members of the Self Help Groups (SHGs) who will operate the carts, encouraging them to maintain hygiene, ensure product quality, and focus on customer satisfaction.

At Marina Park, the cart will be managed by Ms. Sree Laxmi of Rani Sindiya SHG, while the Bathu Basti unit will be run by Ms. Santhi of Victory SHG. Their participation, officials said, will not only ensure easy availability of milk and milk products but also promote women’s empowerment and livelihood generation.

Local councillors V. Vetriveli (Ward No. 19) and S. Selvi (Ward No. 5) lauded the initiative as a model of SHG-based entrepreneurship that directly benefits the community.

With these new ventures, ANIIDCO expects an additional ₹10–12 lakh in monthly sales, strengthening the Milk Division’s growth while promoting nutritional security and a fresh, healthy start to every Islander’s day.
